Job Description
General Purpose of Job:
To provide professional nursing expertise for the assessemnt and treatment of patients who are experiencing Chronic Pain at the Sparrow Pain Management Center.
Essential Duties
- Assesses patient condition prior to procedure and while recovering from procedure and initiates appropriate nursing care including vital monitoring, medication administration and emergency protocol in accordance with established guidelines.
- Evaluates the patient’s response to their Pain procedure and sedation and revises the treatment plan as needed throughout the patient's entire stay including recovery process.
- Delegates and directs specifics of the care plan to radiological technologists, medical assistants, patient care technicians, or other health care workers while caring for the patient as a whole person.
- Performs patient and family teaching prior to procedures and at discharge from procedures in a manner that is understood by the patient and their designee verifying understanding by the patient.
- Reports pertinent data of the patient’s condition to the physician, department manager, and other medical personnel as appropriate.
- During procedure complete airway management, medication admnistration and assist the Physician with procedure while maintaining a sterile field.
- Spical cord stimulator management including removal of leads following the trial period.
- Intiathecal pump reprogramming and refill including monitoring the patient, locating the pump, administration of medication and proper documentation.
- Triaging phone calls from current and new patients in a manner that keeps the patient calm and provides excellent customer services while navigating the complexities of the situation.
- Serve as a liaison between Sparrow inpatient and the Pain Management Center to promote appropriate treatment to address a patient's pain while they are inpatient.
- Acts as a liaison between members of the healthcare team, patient, and patient’s family to assist with perscripton questions and medication refills while ensuring all state regulations are followed.
- Assumes a preceptor role for new Caregivers providing general information regarding job responsibilities, training on specific Pain Management Center techniques and checking the Caregiver off on competencies that are specific to the Pain Management Center, while reporting the progress to the Leadership Team.
- Maintains equipment and supplies in designated locations to provide organization and proper work flow for the Pain Management Center.
- Adjust equipment, report concerns and assist team members with keeping a safe environment for the patients and the Caregivers. Maximize customer satisfaction by treating our customers with respect and responding to their needs in a prompt, friendly and courteous manner both on the phone and in person.
General Requirements * Current Michigan license to practice as a Registered Nurse
- BLS certification within 60 days of hire.
- Minimum of three years nursing experience preferred
- Graduate of accredited nursing program
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology as would normally be obtained through successful completion of a medical terminology course.
- Strong interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, ability to perform multiple tasks and adapt to changing work situations required.
- Ability to prioritize and keep pace in a very busy setting.
